SIBO is a abnormal and prolific growth of bacteria or archaea, which is a single cell organism that is termed to be older than bacteria and occurs in the small intestine. SIBO has a 50% change of coming back, which is why it is important to adopt a diet that suits your lifestyle. Diet actually is termed to be a word catered to “for life.” Knowing this I think it’s important to understand that your body is a byproduct of your diet. It is essential to be eating foods that nourish your organs, and provide pleasure in times of stress when appropriate. You can try to get into antimicrobials and stick to single ingredient products, which I will discuss below.
What happens with the bacteria and/or archaea is they interfere with normal digestion through their instinct for survival by being in the small intestine upon delivery of new food, and preventing the digestion of the nutrients into the bloodstream then fermenting the food. During fermentation process the bacteria release hydrogen (the oldest, lightest, and most abundant element in life), and the archaea release methane which explains the bloating – methane production in the gut is associated with bloating and constipation.
SIDE NOTE: How do you kill off these stubborn methane producing archaea?! Look into adopting a high dose chemical from Garlic called Allicin – I talk about Allicin multiple times in my YouTube videos, and I actually will eat the garlic raw or make tea from it. You can also look into supplements, there is one called Biome Clear, which is essentially Oregano Oil, Ginger Oil, and Fennel Oil. By killing some of these methane producing archaea you may be able to get to the root of the problem. What is surprising is Lovastatin, which is a drug used for lowering lipids values, has been shown to be found in oyster mushrooms, and red yeast rice and they may help to inhibit the growth of archaea.
In addition to bowel discomfort the production of gas may lead to a weak absorption of carbs, fats, and protein. This is probably the most difficult part to handle as without nutrients we can not function optimally. This is another reason why it is important to eat as fresh as possible and avoid too much processed foods, and sugars. The sugars can affect the lining of your gut and intestinal walls. When you damage the intestinal wall lining…what happens? – Leaky gut. Leaky gut causes vitamin deficiencies specifically vitamin B12 deficiency.
Adaptogenic Herbs to Heal the Gut (Stick to single ingredient products):
· Neem oil
· Oregano oil
· Allicin from Garlic
· Berberine
· Garlic extract
· Olive leaf
· Dysbioside
Diagnosis is simple: take a at home breath test that measures the hydrogen and methane levels.
To learn more about SIBO, in 2010 a naturopathic physician became one of the leading experts in the field and has a great resource here:
Dietary considerations:
Low fodmap diet for first 8 weeks sometimes up to 12, leave gut defender (use code Yele10) in (2 caps/day), and berberine. Then slowly add high fodmap foods back in 1-2 high fod map / week.
If really constipated : use beta plus (if super constipated) or beta TCP (if not as much). Also check out microbiome labs HU58.
https://shop.bioticsresearch.com/ and https://microbiomelabs.com/home/ are 2 great resources.
You can also look into Saccharomyces boulardii (60 C) for diarrhea.
I will make a separate post on biofilm- any infection of bacteria is going to clump together and try to build a home and save themselves from being harmed, and it can attach itself to the intestinal walls. Because it has the protective films on it the antimicriobials can’t get into them so you end up killing all the bugs that are circulating with no biofilm. Using a biofilm (use code Yele10) - you are breaking them down so the antimicrobials can get into them. Use biofilm on every case.
I hope this helps.
